A teacher to Jacques Lacan, Andre Breton, and Albert Camus, Kojeve defined art as the act of extracting the beautiful from objective reality. His poetic text, ''The Concrete Paintings of Kandinsky,'' endorses nonrepresentational art as uniquely manifesting beauty.
